This is the absolute perfect way to kick off an amazing summer! I am SOOOOOO excited to get there today! I can't wait to meet my roomies :)!! We have a photoshoot for the offical Miss Teen Canada-World 2010 pageant today that is also super exciting! But, I couldnt have made it here without the help of my amazing sponsors! So I would like to thank The Queen Muse Boutique, Russell's Interiors, and The Branscombe Foundation for supporting me financially! Another special thank you I would like to give out is to my talent agent, Geoffrey Chapman for being such a great agent over the years, and helping me prepare for this amazing trip which I am about to embark on! I am going to miss my family and friends dearly, but I know  that this is going to be one of the best weeks  of my life! People wait forever for an amazing oppourtunity like this, and I am so blessed to have this door opening for me! I will try and blog some more during my stay if I have a second to my self, but I am going to go to this pageant and try my best, and most importantly, HAVE FUN!!! :)

My Other Half!

Fri, July 09, 2010 - 11:12PM 0 Comments

You see this lovely man to the right?

This is Ron Bell my personal stylist, hair dresser, makeup artist, and my twin ;). I met him a few years ago, and this is how it went. I have been assistant teaching the modelling and acting classes at my agency, Geoffrey Chapman, and we had a makeup/hairstylist come in one night, and to my surprise I walked into the room, and that’s when I met Ron. Ron is quite the character I tell you, probably one of the funniest people I know. I will never forget the night I met him, he was teaching the class and a little girl wanted her hair done, so he teased out her hair and gave her this HUGE high fashion faux-hawk, and she had the look of dead fear in her eyes. It was absolutely priceless. I will never forget when he asked her if her mother would approve, and she said that her mother was going to be furious, that’s when he said “ahah well I run faster scared then she does angry”. I don’t think I have ever laughed harder !

From his designer shades down to his Gucci loafers this man defines perfection & fashionista! Ever since I met him on that hilarious night, my whole family has been getting our hair cut at his salon, DV8! DV8 is a Paul Mitchell based salon in Niagara Falls, Ontario, and it is FABULOUS there! You walk in and it just reeks of fashion! There is big leather couches, cabinets filled with hair products, accessories and purses, and of course, colouring stations and chairs! Not only is Ron fabulous, but so is the rest of his staff! Everyone at DV8 is like family, and it is one big party there! If you want beautiful hair, DV8 is the place to go. They can do pretty much anything with hair, you name it, they’ll do it! People can go in there asking for styles ranging anywhere from Hollywood glam to crazy punk! In case you were wondering, Ron and the team are the ones who hooked me up with my ah-mazing hair extentions I have now! Recently, I went into DV8 to get my hair coloured fresh for the pageant and I absolutely adore the outcome! I got it highlighted, and my extentions too! I was recently coloured really dark, and it is a challenge to colour hair lighter once its dark, but Ron worked his magic and figured a way to fix everything! Now my hair is pageant ready and perfectly trimmed, coloured and styled! I am so blessed that I found Ron to guide me fashion, hair and makeup wise, or else I would probably be a completely different person! Ron has taught me lots of things that I definitely couldn’t have learned on my own! He taught me how to curl my hair with a straightener (works so much better), how to cut hair, and how to apply makeup. To me, Ron is like my other half. We act the same, except I think I know who is more of a “diva” ;)…

My Platform : Diabetes & My Inspirations

Fri, July 09, 2010 - 10:34PM 0 Comments

Okay, I cant even deny it that I am totally obsessed with Nick Jonas from the Jonas Brothers, but how couldnt I be, right? His voice, music, hair, eyes, style, cuteness, I mean the list goes on forever! But the main reason why I absolutely adore Nick so much is because of one reason. He shows everyone how he won't let anything slow him down, and that life goes on. Nick may be a talented musician, but when you first looked at him, you wouldn’t think that he is the face of juvenile diabetes. Now what is diabetes you ask? Diabetes is a blood disease where the levels of glucose in the blood are irregular. Glucose is the primary source of energy for human and animal cells. Glucose enters the body when you consume food with carbohydrates, like pasta. Glucose levels are kept intact by insulin, which people with diabetes have to inject themselves with in order to sustain a manageable glucose level. Insulin is a hormone that is produced by the pancreas and it is later on released into the bloodstream when the body’s glucose levels rise. So if you have diabetes, your body’s levels of glucose is always up and down, and you need to manage it by injecting insulin into your body. Diabetes is manageable, however, since there is currently no cure, it is a disease that will remain with you for life. The top symptoms of diabetes are frequent trips to the bathroom, unquenchable thirst, excessive weight loss, weakness & fatigue, tingling or numbness throughout the body, and blurred vision. In 2005 Nick was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is a potentially fatal condition unless treated with the insulin. Nobody realized that Nick had all of the symptoms, until one day when he went swimming with his brothers, he took off his shirt and was shockingly skinny. Shortly after, his family rushed him to the hospital where he then found out that he had type 1 diabetes. The first thing that he asked the doctor was “Am I going to die?”. The doctor told him that no, he wasn’t going to die, but he was going to have to live with this condition for the rest of his life. He had no clue what it was, so him and his brothers researched it online at the hospital. They found out that diabetes is something that is manageable, and that it currently has no cure. To this day, Nick Jonas does not let diabetes slow him down, and to me, that is truly an inspiration. Nick is touring all over the world teaching people about diabetes and telling them his story. He has even met with president, Barack Obama to discuss his diabetes, helping other patients, and raising awareness. Nick has opened up his own charity titled “Change for the Children”. The charity raises awareness and funds for the cause, and has raised thousands of dollars for diabetes and numerous other causes! Him and his brothers opened up the charity together and to date it is still raising money! Another reason why I love Nick so much is because he reminds me of another very special man in my life. He is someone who is very close to me, I like to consider him one of my best friends. My papa, Tony Fabiano is a cute little Italian man who lives in Welland, Ontario, and he is also diagnosed with diabetes. Just like Nick, my papa does not let this disease slow him down, he has his highs and his lows, but nothing ever stops him. My papa and I have grown stronger over the years, and this has drawn us even closer together. Diabetes may be a struggle in his day to day life, but in the end, we all know everything is going to be okay.

Who would’ve thought that in just 60 Minutes, lives could be changed forever. It took just ONE television show to change the lives of millions, and it only took ONE very powerful woman to do so. Oprah Winfrey is one of the most famous women in the world, with her emmy award winning talk show, her beauty, her appeal with people, I mean how COULDN’T she be, right? Sure everyone knows about her charity work here and there, but there is so much more to it. Oprah has dedicated her whole life to helping others, and it truly is something that she should be recognized for. She has accomplished the impossible by building hundreds of schools and homes, and providing children with educational programs. Sure you may THINK you know all about her charity work, but here is the real deal on Oprah Winfrey. On a 1997 episode of the “Oprah Winfrey Show”, Oprah invited all of the viewers to join her and use their lives to improve the lives of others! This very influential episode of “The Oprah Winfrey Show” only began as a campaign to recruit and encourage viewers to collect spare change for 150 scholarships that were distributed through out the Boys and Girls Clubs of America and to convince people to volunteer their time to build 200 homes with the organization Homes for Humanity. It took just this ONE episode to start this HUGE movement world wide! This was simply just the beginning of the “Oprah’s Angel Network” Foundation. The goal of the charity is to inspire people to make a difference in the lives of others, and she did just this. Oprah is the president, head chairperson, and spokesperson of “Oprah’s Angel Network”. “Oprah’s Angel Network” is a non profit, volunteered served charity that provides educational opportunities and scholarships that assists people in fulfilling basic human needs and regaining their dignity! The organization tries to combat various issues in society such as inspires young people to become active, compassionate and knowledgeable members of their community! “Oprah’s Angel Network” introduced the “Use Your Life Award” on the “Oprah Winfrey Show” in 2000. Through out 2000-2003, 54 non profit organizations that were making a difference in the world got recognized for their hard work and accomplishments by receiving this award. The organization built the “Seven Fountains Primary School” in KawZulu-Natal, South Africa. Opening in 2007, the school has provided over 1000 boys and girls with an education, and it also serves as a model for teaching, learning, and education throughout South Africa. These are not even half of the organization’s accomplishments! Unfortunately, all great things come to an end, and Oprah’s Angel Network will no longer accept donations as of May 24th 2010 and will no longer be continuing its Grant Making Program. In the future Oprah Winfrey will make philanthropy a priority in her life, her new cable network (ONE: The Oprah Winfrey Network) and she will continue to work with numerous other charitable organizations throughout the years to come. “Oprah’s Angel Network” has accomplished all of this and so much more. It continues to amaze me how it only took just ONE person to start this HUGE movement! I never thought that just ONE episode of a television talk show could change lives around the world. She completely took control of everyone and everything in the world and changed everything for the better. Oprah truly went above and beyond by creating Oprah’s Angel Network. This is the main reason why I look up to Oprah Winfrey. In a sense, Oprah reminds me of Mother Theresa. She was willing to put all of these people before her self just like her, and to me, that means something. It means that she is humble, kind hearted, and willing to try her absolute hardest to achieve the impossible. She has changed the lives of millions of children, women, and families world wide, and I personally think that she should be sainted for all of her hard work and dedication! Not only is Oprah Winfrey an amazing person, television host, entrepreneur, and role model but to me, she defines CHANGE. She showed not just herself, but the whole world that it only takes ONE person to make a difference. After all, “You get from the world what you give to the world.” - Oprah Winfrey.
